TRANSFORMED!

Here are the final pics of the remodeling! We absolutely LOVE our floors, furniture, lighting fixtures, and appliances! This house has been transformed in the last 4 weeks and we couldn't be more excited, relieved and proud!

Thanks to all of you who have been keeping up on the changes and supplying support. We can't wait for everyone to see it!

Thanks to the rise in property values over the last 5 years, we were able to afford these renovations and new furniture in the new house. We decided to pay homage to the house's era and attempt to keep it looking retro yet modern. Our furniture is from Lazy Boy's Todd Oldham line and is manufactured with the earth and animals in mind. Lighting fixtures came from a variety of places and were kept in the vein of 1965. We just had to keep it 2007 in the kitchen though! The appliances are all Energy Star rated and stainless steel. Once the mauve counter tops are gone it will be an official 2007 kitchen!

When the guest bath is finished I will post pics of that, but for now the bulk of the work is done!

Thanks again for visiting!

It is Day Thirteen of our journey into renovation. We've spent our first night back in the house, all of the animals are home now, and we have started moving things back into place.

Wayne comes today to do the floors in the guest bathroom. That should only take one day which will be nice. Then we just have to do some drywall patching, painting and install the new vanity. I'll keep you up to date on how that goes!

So here are the final pictures! Things will change a bit once the furniture gets put in place and the dogs find favorite resting spots, so check back in! Thanks for tuning in to see how everything evolved! It has been fun to get your comments and emails!
Karly and Mason wasted no time breaking in the floors! Both are exhausted after a fun week at the manny's!

**UPDATE**
Just letting you guys know that we haven't forgotten about posting. The last coat went on the floors yesterday and there is nothing to see yet. We are leaving our posh accommodations now to take a look in the morning light! Stay Tuned! As soon as we have pics you are
the next to see!

Day Nine brings more anticipation and polyurethane stink! Pretty much all there was to do today was buff, sweep and add the 2nd coat to the floors. So, I'll post some of the recent pics so you can get an idea of how great things are going. With every buff and coat, the floors get prettier and prettier. The final coat of satin will most likely blow our minds!
*In case you were curious: the cuteness of "camping" at the office is gone! We are ready to be home in our own bed!

I've lost track of what Day it is, but today was dedicated to sanding, scraping, buffing, and polyurethaning.

This picture shows the change happening right before our eyes! So nice!

We quickly realized that we couldn't be in the house once the first coat started going down. Man does that stuff stink! We packed our bags for the exodus as quick as possible, but not without light headaches and burning noses and throats!

We settled on taking pictures outside looking in because we could see more that way! If you look close you can see us in the reflection!

Then it was off to the office where we began to get settled in our new home for the next few nights. I just keep telling myself that this is temporary and we aren't really homeless! All in all the first night wasn't too bad. It's actually very quiet here at night.

The second coat goes down today at 1pm. Probably won't have any pics since we can't be there much. Hopefully he will get started on the bathroom today too. We hope you are enjoying! We are having a great time documenting it all!

Day Seven? Six? Eight? No, Day Seven. Yes. Seven. Excuse us but we are a bit delirious from both the renovation and the late New Year's Eve with our firework phobic dogs! So today has been an exercise in stamina. Just trying to stay awake has been a task.

Okay, here we go. Today was dedicated to stairs, fillers and the beginning of sanding!

The main stairs finished up nicely and really are beautiful. What a great way to enter the living room. The dark vertical marks on the face are strap marks and will be sanded out.
The first round of sanding came next and wow is that dusty! We've got the upstairs partitioned off with plastic to keep the dust and smell downstairs. Lots of fans and open windows.

The last thing they did was fill any gaps with a mix of lacquer and sawdust. Now everything looks like a big spackled wall! It will get sanded twice more in the morning.

This is eventually what the floors will look like when done. Eeeeee!

We got an okay on doing the guest bathroom with the leftover wood. He said we definitely have enough, but he wasn't sure we wanted small pieces. We decided we are good with small boards and began the demolition of the guest bath after the guys left. Our dads would be proud!

We took out the vanity which was glued and nailed to the wall only to find a big hole to the concrete subfloor. Who were the people that did the construction on this home?

Then we tackled the tile border which had been caulked in preparation for some sort of nuclear event! Who uses this much caulk on a FLOOR?!?!
So now we are ready for tomorrow. Will be going to sleep early tonight! Wow we are tired!

Dogs go off to the manny tomorrow morning and the cats are being shuttled to the office where we will all live happily for the next few days! Can't wait to post those pictures!!
See you tomorrow!
